Volkswagen Passat 206TSI is on the Way

The Volkswagen Passat 206TSI R-Line 4Motion, the spiritual successor to the legendary Volkswagen Passat R36, will go on sale in Australia before the end of the year.

The Volkswagen Passat 206TSI will feature the same 2.0L 4 cylinder turbocharged engine as the Volkswagen Golf R. Paired with a slick shifting six speed dual clutch automatic and 4Motion all wheel drive, the Passat 206TSI will sprint to 100km/h in 5.5sec- only marginally slower than the lighter and more aerodynamic Golf R which completes the same sprint in 4.9sec.

Volkswagen Passat 206TSI Driving on the Open RoadPricing for the Volkswagen Passat 206TSI will kick off at $57,990 (plus on road costs) for the sedan and $59,990 for the wagon. The price represents a significant reduction over the 220kW/350Nm 3.6L naturally aspirated V6 Passat R36 that cost $66,990 when production ceased in 2010.

The glaring omission of ‘R’ badging in place of ‘R-Line’ may not be a good thing for pub bragging rights, however, is likely a significant driving factor behind the reduced price.

The Passat 206TSI R-Line 4Motion will feature the Volkswagen Group’s Active Information Display, Adaptive Chassis Control and Satellite Navigation as standard.

The Volkswagen Passat 206TSI is essentially the same car as the $52,690 Skoda Superb 206TSI with more standard equipment and brand prestige.

Order books for the Volkswagen Passat 206TSI R-Line 4Motion are now open with deliveries scheduled for October 2016.
