2017 Tesla Model S P100D: “Fastest Accelerating Production Car in the World”

The new Tesla Model S P100D is set to be the fastest production car in the world when deliveries kick off in 2017. In ‘Ludicrous Mode’ the Tesla Model S P100D will accelerate to 100km/h in 2.7sec. By way of camparison, the Lamborghini Aventador SV and the Ferrari 488GTB will sprint to 100km/h in 2.8sec and 2.9sec respectively.

Whilst Tesla acknowledges that both the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder will both accelerate to 100km/h faster than the Tesla Model S P100D, they state; “Both the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder were limited run, million dollar vehicles and cannot be bought new. While those cars are small two seaters with very little luggage space, the pure electric, all-wheel drive Model S P100D has four doors, seats up to 5 adults plus 2 children and has exceptional cargo capacity.”

So technically, the Tesla Model S P100D is the third fastest production car ever made. Still, outsprinting a McLaren P1 and every other production car that you can think of, with the exception of the aforementioned Ferrari and Porsche Duo, is no small feat.

The Tesla Model S P100D supersedes the Tesla Model P90D as the fastest accelerating car in the American manufacturers lineup. Range has also been extended from the Tesla Model P90D, with the Model S P100D now capable of travelling an estimated 613km on a single charge, compared to 509km for the Model P90D.

Australian pricing and specifications for the Tesla Model S P100D is yet to be confirmed. We expect to see further details emerge over the coming months as the 2017 launch date edges closer.
