There’s no disputing the mechanical brilliance of the Volkswagen Golf R Mk7, it’s not subjective— there’s no argument to have— it is a well-built, absurdly quick, and practical way to get your shopping home with a big smile on your face. The design of the Golf R Mk7, well, that’s a different conversation all together.
Coming up to four years in its current form, the Mk7 Golf R is beginning to look quite dated beside its hot-hatch counterparts. Happily, Volkswagen have found a new way to fight the aging process— by increasing the range of available colour options from five to forty-five.
That’s right, Volkswagen have unveiled 40 new hues that you can select for your Golf R, and they’re all rather spectacular.
Each colour option from the aptly named “Volkswagen Spektrum Program” will add an extra $2,500USD to the sticker price and around four months of waiting time. Colour choices will include Mars Red—the same colour that adorned the iconic Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk1— and “Viper Green”, the colour synonymous with the Lamborghini Huracan, as well as an array of Red’s, Blue’s, and even Pink.
With the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf gently knocking at the door, the hugely successful Volkswagen Golf Mk7.5 R is making a final push for sales before it is replaced in the next year or two.
Sadly, for Australian buyers, the Spektrum Package is available strictly in the United States and Canada. Aussie’s will have to make do with Tornado Red and Lapiz Blue if they want any colour on their Golf R.
