The GT3 is a product of Porsche Motorsport, the fabled tuning division tasked with producing the German car makers most important motoring icons. As such, the driver focussed 911 GT3 is manufactured in a separate factory to the insanely fast, albeit slightly numb, 911 Turbo and Turbo S variants. The GT3 is by no means the most powerful 911 that money can buy, in fact, with 320kW/430Nm and a 0-100km/h time of 4.1sec, there are a handful of 997 911 variants that will trounce the GT3 in a straight line.
Pub bragging rights metrics aside, the 997 GT3, capable of lapping the Nurburgring in 7min 40sec, is one of the most capable road legal track cars that Porsche have ever made. The standard 3.6L flat-six engine from the Carrera S has been replaced with a larger 3.8L unit with titanium con-rods that will rev to 8500rpm. The driver centric GT3 benefits from a slew of weight shaving measures that cuts kerb weight to 1395kg. Happily, for purists, the heavy PDK dual clutch unit was deemed inappropriate for the lightweight GT3, in its place, a slick shifting six speed manual for maximum driver involvement.
The distinctive rear-wing, hunkered down suspension and speed-bump grinding front lip visually set the GT3 apart from the rest of the 911 range. Finished in the aptly named ‘Speed Yellow’ and featuring a rear roll cage and track-ready bucket seats, this 997.2 GT3 is one of the cleanest examples on the market.
