Speciale by name, special by nature. The Ferrari 458 Speciale is one of the most desirable and collectable cars ever made by the Italian supercar manufacturer. Touted as one of the most invigorating and rewarding supercars to ever roll out of Maranello, the 458 Speciale is Ferrari’s farewell to the high-revving naturally aspirated V8 that has carried the company since the inception of the 1975 Ferrari 308GTB.
The Speciale’s naturally aspirated V8 engine has been tweaked to produce 445kW/540Nm- enough to race to 100km/h in 3.0sec and onto a top speed of more than 330km/h. The Speciale further benefits from a number of weight saving measures, a sophisticated sideslip control system, locking rear differential and a sophisticated traction control system capable of guiding even the most inexperienced driver to blazing lap times.
In a world of downsizing and turbocharging, the 458 Speciale was Ferrari’s final all-out effort to create an uncompromising road car that demonstrated that there could never truly be a replacement for the symphony of a naturally aspirated V8. While the incoming Ferrari 488GTB has demonstrated that forced induction can’t be matched in an effort to increase power while reducing emissions, it’s twin-turbocharged V8 soundtrack falls short of the orchestral 458.
One of only two examples currently for sale in Australia, this Rosso Mugello 458 Speciale optioned with the carbon fibre engine bay and carbon fibre side sills is set to appreciate over the coming years as collectors scramble to secure their slice of automotive history.
