Just in case the already ballistic 911 Turbo is a little tame for your liking, Porsche offer an even hotter version of their twin scroll turbocharged monster with the aptly named Turbo S. With a 29kW/40Nm improvement over the standard Turbo thanks to modified inlet ports and increased fuel pressure and boost, the Turbo S produces an astounding 412kW/700Nm and is capable of launching to 100km/h in 3.1sec.
The 911 Turbo S isn’t the hard core racer that you might expect from Porsche’s most powerful car, that job is reserved for the track ready GT3 RS. With a refined interior, unobtrusive cabin noise and a compliant ride, the 911 Turbo S is perhaps the ultimate everyday supercar. A significant increase in torque thanks to the addition of two turbochargers means that Porsche’s 3.8L flat-six is easier to enjoy as a daily driver without the need to approach license cancelling speeds.
The 991 Series represents a significant moment in the life of the 911 and Carrera range as the final rendition to feature naturally aspirated engines before the entire range (with the exception of the GT3 and GT3RS) resorts to forced induction with the 991.2 series. As such, the 991 will go down in history as an important milestone for Porsche fans, a turning point for enthusiasts and a new beginning for the 911 range. The Turbo 911 that was once held in disdain by enthusiasts is now a pioneer for what the future of more powerful and economical engines will look like.
