This wonderfully prepared, super sprint winning 1963 Lotus Elan has come on the market for the first time since undergoing a complete restoration. Featuring a Quaiffe gearbox and rear differential, the Lotus Elan is ready for weekend coastal cruises and stage races alike.
The Lotus Elan forgoes its traditional 2+2 layout in favour of a stripped down cabin featuring roll cage and six-point harness seat belts. The ready-to-race theme is continued with the Momo steering wheel and immaculate shaved engine bay.
Whilst the 78kW/146Nm twin-cam 1.6L engine may seem modest, the Lotus Elan weighs just 674kg making it one of the lightest road going coupe’s. To lament just how important the weight is, The Elan’s power to weight ratio of 115kW per tonne is roughly the same as that of a new 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI.
