New Mazda RX: If you promise to buy it, they will build it

The successor to the legendary RX7 (let’s all just forget the RX8 ever happened) may in fact happen, but there’s one condition, you have to promise that you will buy one. Mazda has said that their RX replacement, the Mazda RX Vision may eventuate if there is enough interest from buyers.

The RX Vision that was unveiled as a concept at the 2015 Tokyo Motorshow and many interpreted as Mazda putting a feeler out for an RX7 replacement, however Mazda was coy in confirming any details in saying that there may never ever be a replacement for their rotary powered sports car.

Having generated a lot of interest since the prototype was unveiled, Mazda has declared that if they get enough people put their name down for one they will go ahead and build the sports car that their fans are asking for. Since it’s demise in 2012, owners of the lacklustre rotary have found new ways to make the car as fast as they believe it should have been from the factory with elaborate RX8 Engine Swap’s.

Mazda has stated that tightening emissions regulations has made it increasingly difficult to make a replacement of the high-revving engine that will be competitive with modern forced induction sports cars.

We want to see a worthy replacement for the RX7. So if you want Mazda to build a new rotary powered sports car you’re going to have to start petitioning.
