McLaren have rereleased the press kit images from the 1992 debut of their legendary road-going race car- the McLaren F1. The images of the bright orange press car showcase the incredible presence of, what is arguably, the most progressive supercar ever made.
With a price tag of more than $1million in 1992 their value has soared over the last 20+ years with Australia’s sole example, a private import, in Melbourne and reported to be worth more than $10million AUD- imagine the insurance policy.
In a production run that lasted from 1992 to 1999, McLaren made just 106 examples of the F1. In 1998 the F1 claimed the crown of fastest production car in the world when it achieved a record breaking top speed of 390.7km/h, a record that lasted until 2005 when the Bugatti Veyron became the first production car to eclipse the 400km/h mark.
Touted by many as one of the most important supercars ever made, the legacy of the F1 continues to live on today in its successor- the hybrid McLaren P1.
