Following on from the release of their ‘homage collection’ that included an M2 inspired 2002 Turbo, BMW has released details of a 30th anniversary limited edition M3 ‘30 Jahre’.
The M3 has come a long way over the last thirty-years, originally offered as a four-cylinder high-performance sports back, it has featured six, eight and forced induction engine configurations that have remained true to the mantra of creating a driver focused car that is practical enough for the weekly commute and special enough to take for a blast through the hills on weekends.
The limited edition M3 30 Jahre will be based on the current M3 competition pack which features a magnificent 3.0L turbocharged straight six that produces 331kW/550Nm. The 30 Jahre wil also feature an array of styling tweaks that will set it apart including; 20-inch ‘666 M Star’ forged alloy wheels and ‘Macao Blue metallic paint’ that pay tribute to the M3 that started BMW’s performance sedan obsession in 1976.
To the delight of purists, the M3 will be offered with the option of both a seven-speed M-DCT transmission or six speed manual gearbox for maximum driver involvement. The limited edition M3 will be restricted to just 500 units globally with BMW Australia General manager, Lenore Fletcher, confirming that Australia will be amongst the lucky countries to receive a few of this prized M3 anniversary special.
