McLaren is on the verge of redefining the EV market place
McLaren is preparing to go green, completely green, with an all-electric P1 supercar that will sit below the P1 hypercar that stands alone in McLaren’s fabled ‘Ultimate Series’ range. The Green P1 will ditch the twin turbo V8 in the V8 and focus on its complimentary 132kW electric engine in a bid to make the fastest production electric car in the world.
Early reports have suggested that McLaren are on track to making the first EV production car to crack the 200mph (322km/h) barrier that will out accelerate the supremely fast 675LT.
Previous information hinted that the P1 would be superseded by an EV replacement, however, an insider at McLaren has confirmed that the limited production electric P1 won’t be a successor, rather a technological gateway to the future of electric supercars; an EV successor to the P1 is not expected until 2023.
The EV P1 is expected to sit in purgatory, above Mclaren’s ‘Super Series’ range that includes the 675LT and 650S, but below the ‘Ultimate Series’ that is reserved for halo hypercars like the hybrid McLaren P1.
