The Volkswagen Jetta that featured in the very first Fast and the Furious movie is currently listed for sale (again) in the United States.
For those not familiar with the Fast and the Furious franchise, or those of you who just need a refresher, the Jetta was driven by Chad Lindberg who was known as ‘Jesse’ in the 2001 film. Jesse lost his Jetta to Johnny Tran when racing for pink slips against Tran’s Honda S2000.
The Jetta was originally sold to (or raced for pink slips — who knows?) Malcolm in the Middle Star and amateur racing enthusiast Frankie Muniz.
The outlandish Volkswagen Jetta was last sold in 2016 where it fetched $46,000 USD. Now, as the Fast and the Furious legacy continues to grow, the price has jumped considerably.
The 1995 Volkswagen Jetta features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine which seems to have undergone extensive modifications — however, it is not clear whether there are for visual effect or whether they provide real-world performance.
Contrary to the outlandish gear shift sequences that have become synonymous with the Fast and the Furious movies (Were they ever not shifting gears? How many gears did they even have?), the Jetta actually features an automatic transmission — which makes you wonder what Jesse was doing.
Most importantly, the Jetta’s spoiler is signed by Paul Walker (RIP), Chad Lindberg (Jesse) and the Fast and the Furious Director Rob Cohen.
