The Maserati MC12 never quite hit the mark. Despite sharing the same chassis and drivetrain as the brilliant Ferrari Enzo, the Giorgetto Giugiaro and Frank Stephenson co-designed car was critically panned by everyone who drove it. Famously, Top Gear Presenter Jeremy Clarkson declared that the MC12 was a “detuned Ferrari Enzo in a fat suit” and “far too big, far too ugly and far too tricky to drive fast”.
In a production run that spanned one-year between 2004-2005, just 50 examples of the MC12 were made available for sale. With an asking price $718,000 AUD when new, it is the most expensive Maserati ever made.
The standard MC12 features a slightly detuned version of the Ferrari Enzo’s 6.0L V12 engine. The MC12 produced 466kW compared to the Enzo’s 484kW, however, despite a slight power deficit, the lighter Maserati would outsprint the Ferrari to 100km/h, covering the dash in 3.8sec before going on to a top speed of 335km/h.
With an extensive list of upgrades, this modified MC12 now revs to 9500rpm and produces a colossal 626kW/780Nm. As such, this 11-year-old hypercar will now rival the most exotic supercars of 2016- sprinting to 100km/h in 3.3sec.
The cost of all this insanity you ask? This Edo Competition Maserati MC12 is currently for sale through Hemmings in Calgary, Canada with an asking price of $2million AUD.
