The Golf GTI 40 Years, the most powerful GTI ever sold by Volkswagen will be available in a choice of automatic or manual transmissions- hurrah!
Volkswagen Australia has delighted fans and surprised critics by announcing that they will offer the 213kW/380Nm GTI rocket with a six speed manual gearbox. Recent sales data suggests that the forthcoming Mk8 Golf GTI may well be the final incarnation of Volkswagen’s high performance hatch to be offered with a manual box.
The Golf GTI 40 Years is set to go on sale in the third quarter of 2016 and will be priced from $46,990 with the six speed manual box or $48,990 for Volkswagen’s slick shifting DSG gearbox.
The incoming special edition represents the first manual limited edition offering from Volkswagen in the Mk7 range with the previous Wolfsburg R and GTI performance only being offered with DSG transmission in Australia. The 40 anniversary special edition will feature the same electronically locking front differential from the Performance GTI to ensure that the extra power is being transferred to the road.
A choice of transmissions will prove to be an important point for enthusiasts who have held out from both of these special editions with the hope that VW Australia would release a high performing special edition hot-hatch with manual transmission.
